Nene Park and Ferry Meadows come alive with new growth, the lakeside paths are quiet enough to enjoy properly, and the milder weather makes walking the Cathedral precincts a pleasure rather than a dash between shelter. It’s a good season for guests who want the city without the crowds.
Summer is Peterborough at its most sociable. Longer days mean more time outdoors — paddleboarding on the lakes, evenings at beer gardens, and the city’s calendar fills with local events and markets. If you’re travelling with family, this is generally the easiest season for keeping everyone entertained outdoors.
Autumn has quietly become a favourite of ours to recommend. Ferry Meadows turns properly golden, the Cathedral looks striking against low afternoon light, and the city’s restaurants and pubs feel cosier as the temperature drops. It’s a strong choice for a slower, more considered visit.
Winter brings its own charm, particularly around the Cathedral and city centre when the Christmas markets and lights are up. It’s also, practically speaking, when rates tend to be kindest and availability easiest, which matters if you’re planning a work stay or a flexible visit.
